April 4, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Two people were killed during a shooting on the grounds of a Brampton elementary school late Friday night.

Peel Regional Police reported the incident took place at approximately 10:23 p.m. At St. Joachim Elementary School, located near the intersection of Rutherford Road and Weybridge Trail. The victims, identified as a man in his 20s and a male youth, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Cst. Laurie McCann, a spokesperson for Peel Regional Police, stated during a news conference on Saturday morning that an altercation involving several individuals had occurred on the school grounds. McCann indicated that it is possible the shots were fired by multiple people.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived, and authorities have not yet determined if they escaped on foot or utilized a vehicle.

The Peel Regional Police homicide unit is currently leading the investigation, and officers are maintaining a large presence in the surrounding area. Police are now working to determine the relationship between the suspects and the victims.
