local Bookstore Hosts Author Events Focusing on Future Climate & Spanish Civil War history
port-Vendres, France – The Oxymore bookstore will host two author events this week, offering insights into both the long-term challenges of climate change and a poignant chapter of 20th-century history. Thes gatherings present a unique chance for residents and visitors to engage with leading thinkers on critical contemporary and past issues.
On Tuesday, November 18th, at 8:30 p.m., Nathanaël Wallenhorst will present his book, 2049, what the climate will do to Europe (Threshold).Wallenhorst’s work utilizes extensive data analysis to project the biophysical, climatic, and societal impacts facing Europe in the coming decades. The event promises a concrete exploration of how daily life – from work to relationships - may be reshaped by a changing climate, offering a timely discussion as global temperatures continue to rise and concerns about environmental sustainability intensify.
Then, on Thursday, November 20th, at 6 p.m., historian Célia Keren will discuss her book, The cause of children (Anamosa), which details the story of nearly 15,000 Spanish Republican children evacuated to France during the Spanish Civil War. These children, aged between five and fifteen, were placed with French host families or in specialized children’s homes. A second event with Keren will be held on Friday, November 21st, at 6:30 p.m., in collaboration with the elne town hall, at the Swiss Maternity of Elne, Château d’en Bardou, route de Bages.
