Twins Interviewing Hyde, Schumaker, Albernaz for Managerial Vacancy
The Minnesota Twins are considering Brandon Hyde, Skip Schumaker, and Craig Albernaz as potential replacements for recently fired manager Rocco Baldelli, sources confirmed Monday. The Twins are seeking a new leader after Baldelli’s eight-year tenure ended following a disappointing 2024 season.
Hyde,51,guided the Baltimore Orioles to a division title in 2023 and another playoff berth in 2024 before being unexpectedly dismissed in May. Over seven-plus seasons with Baltimore, he compiled a 421-492 record (.461 win percentage) while developing a young roster. Prior to his time with the Orioles, Hyde spent six years on the Chicago Cubs coaching staff under managers Rick Renteria and Joe Maddon. He was also a finalist for the Twins managerial position when Rocco Baldelli was ultimately hired.
Schumaker, 45, managed the Miami Marlins for two seasons, leading them to a playoff appearance in 2023 and earning the National League Manager of the Year award. He was let go following a 98-loss 2024 season and changes in the Marlins’ baseball operations leadership. Schumaker currently serves as an advisor to Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young, sparking speculation he could be a future managerial candidate there following Bruce bochy’s departure after an 81-81 season.
Albernaz, 42, has been the bench coach for Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt the past two seasons. He previously served as the Giants bullpen coach for three years. Albernaz was a finalist for managerial openings with the Marlins and Chicago white Sox last year.
