Twin Disc Reports Record Q4 2026 Revenue and Strong Defense Demand

August 22, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Twin Disc (NASDAQ: TWIN) reported record fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 revenue of $114.4 million, an 18.3% year-over-year increase, driven by demand in defense and marine propulsion. Despite top-line growth, gross margin contracted to 26.3% due to product mix shifts and tariff impacts. The company maintains a $178.3 million backlog, signaling operational momentum into fiscal 2027.

Revenue Growth and The Defense Backlog

Twin Disc’s financial performance for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, highlights a pivot toward high-demand sectors. According to CFO Jeff Knutson, the 18.3% revenue jump reflects robust organic growth of 15.9%. Defense-related activity continued to build as a larger component of the company’s $178.3 million backlog.

The firm is managing a balance between shipments and order intake. While shipments increased during the quarter, the backlog remains broadly level with the $179.5 million reported in the fiscal third quarter.

Margin Compression and Tariff Exposure

Gross profit dipped 3.5% to $30.1 million, with gross margins contracting from 32.3% in the prior-year period to 26.3%. Management identified three primary drivers: an unfavorable shift in product mix, specific tariff costs, and the absence of a $3 million favorable inventory capitalization-cost adjustment that benefited the previous year’s results at the Finnish subsidiary, Katsa.

Tariffs alone reduced the latest quarter’s gross margin by approximately 60 basis points. To mitigate these headwinds, Twin Disc is executing a supply chain relocation strategy. Moving assembly of the ARF transmission line to Lufkin, Texas, serves a dual purpose: reducing tariff exposure and creating additional manufacturing capacity at the Racine, Wisconsin, facility for marine transmissions and other products.

Operating Income and Normalized Performance

Net income attributable to Twin Disc reached $9.4 million, or $0.64 per diluted share, a marked improvement from the $2.6 million reported in the same quarter last year. CFO Jeff Knutson emphasized that the quarterly bottom line was bolstered by a $2.5 million income tax benefit, part of a $14 million full-year benefit related to the reversal of a domestic valuation allowance.

Operating income, which rose 19.5% to $7.8 million, serves as a more normalized measure of underlying operating performance. The company’s EBITDA margin improved by 120 basis points to 9.7%, reflecting better cost absorption as scale increases.

Strategic Capital Allocation

Twin Disc ended the fiscal year with a solid balance sheet, reporting $16.1 million in cash against $31.4 million in total debt. With net leverage at 0.5 times trailing 12-month EBITDA, the company maintains significant financial flexibility. This liquidity position allowed the board to approve a 25% increase in the quarterly dividend to $0.05 per share.

The company’s long-term objective remains a 30% gross margin threshold by 2030. Achieving this will require a focus on higher-margin opportunities, specifically electric fracturing (e-frac) applications.

Future Trajectory

The market outlook for Twin Disc centers on its ability to sustain defense demand while scaling its marine and oil-and-gas segments. As the firm continues to integrate its Veth propulsion platform and optimize its global manufacturing footprint, the focus will shift to execution. Investors should monitor the progress of the Lufkin, Texas, facility transition, as it represents a tangible effort to stabilize margins against external trade pressures.

As Twin Disc moves into fiscal 2027, its ability to convert its $178.3 million backlog into cash flow will dictate the next phase of its shareholder value creation.
