Tweet Announces New Single & Album, Returns to Music Scene After Hiatus
GRAMMY-nominated R&B singer Charlene Keys, known professionally as Tweet, is set to release new music after a six-year hiatus. The artist revealed via Instagram over the weekend that her new single, “Toot, Toot,” will debut on september 26th, and will be followed by her fourth studio album, Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird.
This marks a significant return for Tweet,whose last album,Charlene,was released in 2016. Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird is positioned as a conceptual follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2002 breakthrough album, Southern Hummingbird, which launched her career and cemented her place in contemporary R&B. The new music arrives after years of recording, with Tweet telling her 411k instagram followers, “It’s time to take you back… 20 years in the making; I never left, I just kept recording.”
Tweet first gained widespread recognition in 2001 when Southern Hummingbird debuted at No.2 on the Billboard R&B charts. The album spawned two hit singles: “Oops (Oh My),” which reached the top ten, and “Call Me” in 2002.
Her path to success included a pivotal co-sign from Missy Elliott, who discovered Tweet and brought her to Goldmind Records in partnership with producer Timbaland. Prior to her solo success, Tweet contributed background vocals to projects for a diverse range of artists including Missy Elliott, Ja-Rule, Trina, Karen Clark Sheard, Monica, and Angie Stone.
