March 24, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

The wife of Dermot O’Neill, who plays Buster Brady in the popular Irish television show Mrs. Brown’s Boys, has been diagnosed with cancer and given only months to live, according to reports in The Irish Sun.

Patricia O’Neill, who nursed her husband through his own battle with cancer, received the diagnosis recently, the newspaper reported. Details surrounding her specific cancer type have not been released.

O’Neill’s diagnosis comes as her husband has returned to performing with the Mrs. Brown’s Boys comedy troupe. Dermot O’Neill was previously diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2011 and underwent treatment.

News of Patricia O’Neill’s illness has prompted an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues, according to The Irish Sun. No official statement has been released by the O’Neill family or representatives for Mrs. Brown’s Boys.

In separate news, Cillian Murphy, the Academy Award-winning actor, recently described his wife, Yvonne McGuinness, as being “right about most things” in a recent interview with Elle magazine. Murphy and McGuinness have been married since 2004 and have two sons. The interview, published on March 7, 2026, highlighted Murphy’s appreciation for the wisdom of women, citing his upbringing with his mother, grandmother, and two sisters.

On December 7, 2025, The Irish Sun also reported on the wedding of broadcaster Tubridy, known as “Tubs,” and his wife, Gosia Glubiak.
