Tucson Teen Golfer Shines on National Stage with Stephen Curry‘s UNDERRATED Tour
TUCSON, Ariz. – Fifteen-year-old Alex “AJ” ramos of Tucson is rapidly becoming a name to watch in the world of junior golf,earning national recognition through his performance on NBA star Stephen Curry’s UNDERRATED Golf Tour. The Catalina Foothills High School sophomore is leveraging the tour’s platform to compete against the nation’s top young talent while maintaining a perfect academic record.
Ramos’s journey began at age eight with a simple interest in the sport, blossoming into a dedicated pursuit that has taken him across the country. The UNDERRATED Golf Tour, founded by Curry to provide greater access and exposure for student-athletes from diverse backgrounds, has proven pivotal in his development. “I’m extremely grateful for the lessons that it taught me,” Ramos said. “And the people that they have there teaching us how to be a better person on the course and off the course.”
This summer, Ramos competed on the UNDERRATED Golf Tour, gaining valuable experience and bolstering his confidence.He’s already automatically qualified to return next year, with his sights set on reaching the Curry Cup, the tour’s championship event at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey.
Ramos’s talent isn’t limited to the UNDERRATED Tour. In 2023, he made headlines by shooting a record-breaking 59 at Starfire Golf Club in Scottsdale, becoming the first junior golfer in Arizona history to break 60. He continued his success in 2024, securing five Junior Golf Association of Arizona titles and participating in several prestigious junior tournaments.
Despite a demanding travel schedule, Ramos maintains straight A’s in school. He credits the discipline, patience, and pressure management skills honed through golf as contributing factors to his academic success. Beyond national competition,Ramos remains committed to his high school golf team,aiming to secure a championship for southern Arizona.
