Trump Urges Google to Restore Univision on YouTube TV

Univision Programming Removed From YouTube TV Amid Contract ‍Dispute

MOUNTAIN VIEW,‌ CA – YouTube TV has dropped Univision ⁣and its associated networks⁢ from its platform following a contract dispute, impacting ‍millions of Spanish-speaking viewers. The removal took ⁣effect Tuesday, leaving subscribers without access to popular news, sports, and entertainment programming in Spanish.

The dispute centers around financial terms. Univision, owned by Televisa, alleges YouTube TV “refused ⁤to do the right thing,” depriving⁣ “millions of spectators” of⁢ their daily Spanish-language content.⁢ Google, YouTube TV’s parent company, stated⁣ it ‍will ⁣offer credits or reimbursements to‍ subscribers‌ affected by⁢ the loss of programming⁤ for a prolonged period, depending on their billing provider.

this comes as former President Donald Trump claimed he improved Republican outreach to Hispanic voters, specifically citing a “Republican record” in ‍that demographic. He also used the situation to call for the restoration of Univision’s access, tweeting, “They‌ were very pleasant with me with their special policy of greatest audience…‌ Google, for justice, please allow Univision⁣ Return!”

The removal affects a significant portion of the Hispanic community who rely on Univision for news⁢ and entertainment.‌ YouTube ⁣TV also faces ‌a similar situation with Telemundo, owned by NBCUniversal, whose contract also expired Tuesday, though Google says it‍ is actively seeking to negotiate a resolution.

Univision has urged viewers ‍to demand its programming be reinstated on YouTube TV, but has faced criticism on social media with some alleging support for the Trump governance. The situation highlights the growing tension between customary media companies and streaming platforms over carriage fees and ⁤content⁣ distribution.
