Trump Spokesperson Dismisses Epstein Questions as Democrats’ “Distraction Campaign” Amid Shutdown Debate
WASHINGTON – White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt deflected repeated questions regarding Donald Trump’s involvement with Jeffrey Epstein on wednesday, characterizing inquiries as a politically motivated “distraction campaign” orchestrated by Democrats and the liberal media. The exchange occured as the management faces ongoing scrutiny over a potential government shutdown and pressure to release documents related to the epstein case.
Leavitt dismissed concerns raised about a recent CNN report detailing a planned White House meeting with Republican Congresswoman Lauren boebert, a proponent of compelling the release of Epstein files, arguing it demonstrated the trump administration’s ”level of transparency.”
“Doesn’t it show transparency that members of the Trump administration are willing to brief members of Congress whenever they please?” Leavitt responded.
The spokesperson then strategically shifted the focus, calling on Reagan Reese, a White House correspondent for the right-wing Daily Caller, to ask a question about the looming government shutdown.
“I have a question on the government shutdown,” Reese announced. Leavitt replied, “Thank you.I’m glad someone does.”
This tactic, according to reporting by The guardian, is a recurring strategy employed by Leavitt and Trump to redirect challenging lines of questioning by soliciting inquiries from kind media outlets. The move successfully diverted attention from the Epstein matter, with reporters afterward posing questions about unrelated topics, including social events at the White House.
The incident highlights the administration’s approach to managing potentially damaging narratives, transforming what could have been a meaningful crisis into a manageable situation, with Leavitt appearing unfazed by the scrutiny.
