Trump Iran Conflict: US Casualties, Vow of Revenge & Escalation

March 2, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

President Donald Trump warned Sunday that further U.S. Casualties are possible as military operations against Iran continue, following the deaths of three American service members in recent attacks. The acknowledgement came as hostilities broadened with exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, and reports of damage to critical infrastructure in Gulf states.

The conflict escalated dramatically after the U.S. And Israel launched strikes targeting Iran, resulting in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, and former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Trump, speaking to Fox News, stated that 48 leaders have been killed in the strikes thus far, characterizing the operation as a long-planned effort. “It’s moving along. It’s moving along rapidly. This has been this way for 47 years,” he said.

Hezbollah’s response to Khamenei’s death involved launching rockets and drones toward Israel, marking the first such attacks since the commencement of U.S. And Israeli strikes on Iran. Explosions were reported in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, according to Lebanese security sources. The group stated its attacks were in retaliation for Israel’s killing of Khamenei and what it described as continuous Israeli violations against Lebanon.

The Pentagon has reportedly briefed congressional staff that Iran was not planning to strike U.S. Forces unless Israel attacked Iran first, contradicting the administration’s initial justification for the strikes, which cited an imminent threat. Despite this, Trump has vowed to continue the assault on Iran until “all of our objectives are achieved,” and warned the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to lay down their arms or “face certain death.” He reiterated his belief that an Iranian regime armed with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons would pose a “dire threat to every American.”

The war has had significant regional repercussions, disrupting air travel and impacting the usually stable Gulf states. Dubai International Airport sustained damage from missile strikes, and airspace closures across the Middle East have left numerous citizens stranded and governments scrambling to organize repatriation efforts. Flights to Dubai and Bahrain were cancelled in Dhaka, Bangladesh, leaving passengers stranded at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Trump indicated in an interview with The New York Times that the U.S. Intends to maintain the assault on Iran for “four or five weeks.” He has not specified what those objectives are, nor has he addressed the potential for further escalation given Hezbollah’s involvement and the ongoing attacks on U.S. Assets in the region.
