Trump Celebrates Argentine President milei‘s Midterm Election Success
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has lauded the midterm election results in Argentina as a “big win” for his ally, President Javier milei. The elections saw Milei’s party, La Libertad Avanza, gain important ground across the country, including a narrow victory in the historically Peronist Buenos Aires province.
the results mark a substantial shift in Argentina’s political landscape, demonstrating growing national support for Milei’s libertarian policies. La Libertad avanza increased its representation in the House of Deputies from 37 to 64 seats out of a total of 127. This success comes just a month after the Peronists defeated Milei’s party in Buenos Aires province by 14 points during local elections.
The gains were particularly notable in agricultural heartlands like Santa Fe Province, a key hub for soybean production, where Milei’s push to deregulate the economy and eliminate tariffs resonated with the influential agricultural sector.
However, the election outcome has drawn criticism from within Argentina. Axel Kicillof, governor of Buenos Aires province and a leading figure in the Peronist opposition, criticized potential U.S. financial support, arguing that billions in investment would primarily benefit profit-driven entities rather than ordinary Argentines struggling with Milei’s austerity measures. “if they come to Argentina, it is indeed for nothing other than profit, putting our resources at risk,” Kicillof stated.
milei is expected to announce a cabinet reshuffle following the election, potentially incorporating members of the centrist PRO party, led by former President Mauricio Macri,a frequent ally in Congress.
