Trump Claims US Systematically Dismantling Iran’s Threat Capability

March 23, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Donald Trump asserted Monday that the United States is “systematically” dismantling Iran’s ability to threaten the U.S., a statement made as tensions remain elevated between the two nations and nuclear negotiations stall.

The former president’s comments, reported by Anadolu Ajansı, came as Iran signaled it wants the U.S. To drop what it considers “excessive demands” in ongoing negotiations regarding its nuclear program. According to Al Jazeera, Iranian officials have not specified which demands they deem excessive, but the impasse suggests a continued lack of progress in reviving the 2015 nuclear deal.

Trump’s claim of systematically dismantling Iran’s capabilities echoes previous rhetoric during his presidency, including threats made during his State of the Union address in 2020, as reported by France 24. At that time, Tehran responded by comparing Trump to Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels.

The current situation unfolds against a backdrop of economic pressures and rising energy prices. The Guardian reported in 2024 that Trump downplayed the impact of rising gas prices during a previous period of heightened tensions with Iran, stating, “We make a lot of money.” This suggests a potential prioritization of economic benefits over concerns about the cost of conflict or instability.

While Trump predicted the Iran war would end “very soon,” as reported by The Conversation, the specifics of how such an outcome would be achieved remain unclear. The statement was made without detailing any specific diplomatic initiatives or military strategies.

The stalled nuclear negotiations, coupled with Trump’s assertions, highlight the ongoing challenges in de-escalating tensions and preventing further conflict. As of Monday, there has been no official response from the Biden administration to Trump’s statement, nor any indication of a breakthrough in the nuclear talks.
