Trump Awarded FIFA Peace Prize at World Cup Draw

FIFA Awards President Trump‌ Peace Prize in Unprecedented ‌Move

WASHINGTON – In a departure from⁣ its⁣ traditional ⁢focus on sport, FIFA President Gianni Infantino⁤ presented U.S. President Donald⁤ Trump with a specially ‌created “peace prize”⁣ on December 5, 2025, recognizing his efforts to “promote peace ‌and unity⁢ around the world.” the‍ presentation occurred during ​events surrounding ⁤the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw.

Infantino ⁤described the award ‍as a “beautiful medal” for President‌ Trump to “wear everywhere you want to go.” ‍Trump immediately placed⁢ the medal around⁢ his neck and was ​also presented with ⁤a gold trophy depicting hands holding up the world, inscribed with his name. “This is your prize, this is your peace ​prize,” Infantino stated.

President Trump expressed gratitude,⁤ acknowledging his family, including ⁣Frist Lady Melania Trump, and praised the collaborative efforts⁢ with ‍Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican⁤ President Claudia ⁤Sheinbaum, calling‌ the​ coordination “outstanding.” ‌He called the award ⁤”truly one of the great honours of ⁣my life.”

FIFA described the prize as recognizing⁢ “individuals who have ⁣taken‌ exceptional and unusual actions for peace and ‌by⁤ doing so have united people across the world.” The award followed a day after President ⁣Trump, along with the ​leaders‌ of⁢ the Democratic⁣ Republic of ⁣Congo and Rwanda, signed a deal⁢ at the newly renamed Donald J. ​Trump⁣ Institute of Peace ⁣in Washington aimed at ‌resolving the conflict⁤ in​ eastern Congo.

The ‌presentation occurred during a week of notable diplomatic activity‍ for the Trump governance, ‌including efforts to mediate the war in Ukraine, while simultaneously facing scrutiny over⁢ military actions in the Caribbean and ⁤immigration policies.

Notably,Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado,recently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize,dedicated a portion of her recognition to President Trump for “his decisive support ⁤of our cause.”
