Trump and Putin agree on Russian diesel shipments to global markets

Trump and Putin agree on Russian diesel shipments to global markets

October 9, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Russia Will Dispatch Millions of Tons of Diesel

Under the newly brokered arrangement, Russia will immediately dispatch an initial tranche of more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the market. According to details shared by the U.S. president, additional shipments will follow on a strict timetable. November will see an influx of another 500,000 tons, immediately followed by an extra 1 million tons. Beyond these scheduled deliveries, Russia stands ready to ship an additional 3 million tons of diesel fuel in the short term, subject to the operational capacity of Russian refineries.

Trump strikes deal with Putin to supply Russian diesel to U.S. and global markets

Temporary Suspension of U.S. Sanctions

To facilitate the movement of these petroleum products, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) immediately authorized the transport and sale of Russian diesel, announcing via social media that the exemption is legally valid until April 7, 2027, as detailed by Telex. The U.S. Treasury issued the temporary authorization following the announcement, according to Reuters reports. This policy shift marks a departure from Washington’s previous trajectory. President Trump signed legislation designed to expand his authority to impose harsher penalties on Moscow over the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Trump Claims Fuel Prices Will Plummet Rapidly

German news agency dpa observed that surging fuel prices pressured the Republican Party ahead of the November midterm elections. Despite the administration’s prior efforts to expand supply—including pressuring allies to tap strategic petroleum reserves and widening the use of dyed diesel—prices remained stubbornly high. President Trump asserted on Truth Social that the combined effect of maintaining full control over the Strait of Hormuz and securing these Russian energy shipments will cause diesel prices to plummet rapidly for consumers in America and globally. – kommentálta a döntést Trump a Truth Socialön.
