Maryland Delegation Denounces Trump Management’s Cancellation of $88 Million in Energy Projects
WASHINGTON – Maryland’s congressional delegation today sharply criticized the Trump Administration’s decision to cancel 12 energy projects across the state, totaling nearly $88 million. The cuts are part of a broader $7.5 billion nationwide rescission of Energy Department project funds, disproportionately impacting states led by Democrats.
The delegation called the move ”grossly partisan and likely illegal,” warning it will led to increased energy costs for Maryland families and businesses, eliminate infrastructure jobs, and weaken the state’s power grid resilience against extreme weather events.
“once again, the Trump Administration is telling American families and businesses: You’re on your own,” the delegation stated. “We are working to maintain these investments and lower energy costs for working families across our state.”
The cancellations come as the federal government remains in a partial shutdown, with the White House reportedly refusing to negotiate with Democrats until the shutdown ends. OMB Director russell Vought spearheaded the project cancellations.
According to the delegation’s full statement, terminating the lawfully approved projects will ”threaten good-paying American infrastructure jobs, and prevent local energy companies from enhancing grid flexibility and improving the resilience of the power system against extreme weather.”
The Maryland delegation vowed to fight the decision and push for a resolution to the government shutdown.
This action follows a recent announcement by the White House signaling potential federal layoffs and further funding cuts amid the ongoing impasse.
