Tropical Storm Kiyapo and Enhanced Monsoon Trigger Floods and Alerts in Luzon

July 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The storm’s trajectory compounded severe weather impacts across the country, where enhanced monsoon rains unleashed widespread floods.

Storm Signals and Track in Northern Luzon

According to PAGASA advisories, Tropical Storm Kiyapo triggered Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 across five distinct areas in Northern Luzon as it tracked closer to the region. The storm intensified slightly prior to its exit from the Philippine Area of Responsibility, maintaining wind and rain impacts across the northernmost parts of the country.

Monsoon Flooding and Emergency Operations

Beyond the direct wind impact of Kiyapo, the combined effects of the tropical storm and the enhanced southwest monsoon triggered widespread flooding across various regions of the Philippines. In response to mounting inundations and continuous downpours, the national emergency operations center raised its alert status.

Bagyong Kiyapo lumakas pa; Wind Signal No. 2 nakataas sa ilang lugar sa extreme northern Luzon
