Trespasser Stopped at Kamala Harris Malibu Home
Incident Details at the Malibu Residence
The security breach occurred at the residence shared by Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, as reported by the sources. Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, stated that security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered the property before reaching the physical structure of the home. Neither Harris nor Emhoff were present at the time of the incident.
“Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff were not present. They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly,” Negrón said in a statement.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Malibu Lost Hills deputies responded to a suspicious person call at the address at 10:30 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the private security detail already stationed on the grounds. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the trespasser was located outside the property perimeter, was warned and advised to leave, and departed voluntarily without incident. No arrests were made, though deputies filed a formal trespassing report.
Security Posture and Protection History
The incident has drawn renewed attention to the ongoing security arrangements surrounding the former vice president. According to Politico, Harris purchased the $8.15 million beach house in December, located within a private, celebrity-dense enclave in Malibu.

Federal protection guidelines for departing executive branch officials dictate that vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office, a timeline established by a 2008 act of Congress. While former President Joe Biden signed a memorandum in January 2025 extending Harris’ federal protection to 18 months, that protection was subsequently revoked by President Donald Trump last year. Following the termination of federal detail, California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that the California Highway Patrol would assume responsibility for security, though the exact costs to the state have not been publicly disclosed.
In response to Friday night’s security event, the Malibu Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department announced plans to increase routine patrols in the immediate neighborhood as an operational precaution.
Local Infrastructure and Property Protection Measures
High-profile coastal properties often present unique structural and geographical challenges for regional law enforcement and private security details. Cliffside access points, private beach paths, and secluded topography require specialized monitoring frameworks to manage perimeter integrity effectively.
As local authorities maintain heightened patrols in the area, the incident underscores the ongoing coordination required between municipal police forces and private security details protecting vacant high-value residences in coastal California communities.
