UTC Student Amy Brown Empowers Fellow Transfer Students After Finding Her Own path
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – A UTC psychology student is dedicating her time to supporting the university’s nearly 3,000 transfer students, drawing on her own experience navigating the challenges of transitioning to a new institution.Amy Brown, now a transfer student mentor in the Centre for Student success, is focused on fostering a welcoming and resourceful environment for those continuing their education at UTC.
Transferring colleges can be a daunting experience, often involving academic adjustments, social integration, and navigating unfamiliar campus resources. Brown’s efforts aim to ease this transition, ensuring transfer students feel seen, recognized, and equipped to succeed. Her work comes as UTC continues to prioritize support for this growing student population, offering a range of resources designed to bridge gaps and build community.
Brown emphasizes the importance of connection, stating, “My role has really been loving on and connecting with transfer students. You have such a lovely possibility every single day to reach just one person and to make a difference.” She encourages patience with the process, assuring students that “everyone is working very hard to help.”
Inspired by her positive experience at UTC, Brown is pursuing a career in teaching psychology. “I really want to teach collage students and I want to empower them,” she said. “I want to connect with them inside and outside the classroom.I just want to make a change in that generation.”
Currently, Brown serves as a mentor, advising students to build relationships with peers and utilize available resources. She believes UTC is “a beautiful place for transfer students,” offering ample support for those seeking a place to connect and thrive.
