Transfer Guard Divine Bourrage Adjusting to Illinois Basketball
Transfer guard Divine Bourrage is adjusting to her new home in Champaign-Urbana after committing to the University of Illinois women’s basketball program for the 2026-27 season, entering her sophomore year following a freshman stint at LSU, according to fightingillini.com reporting.
Building Trust in Champaign-Urbana
Head coach Shauna Green and the Illinois coaching staff landed Bourrage after pursuing her heavily out of Davenport North High School in Iowa, where she ranked among the top players in the Class of 2025. National recruiters from South Carolina and LSU chased the 5-foot-11 guard during her initial prep recruitment, with Bourrage initially signing with the Tigers. During her freshman season in Baton Rouge, LSU posted a 29-6 overall record and advanced to the Sweet 16, though Bourrage logged 237 total minutes across 24 appearances, averaging 2.1 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest. After entering the transfer portal, she chose Illinois to play closer to family and utilize the program’s training facilities and mental health resources, as noted by fightingillini.com.
It feels really nice just being able to know the staff already, Bourrage said, as reported by fightingillini.com. It took me a minute to trust again, but I feel like it’s been a process, but it’s been a good process. Sometimes it takes me a minute to regain my trust with coaches and stuff, but I had to put in my head they’re here for a good reason, not a bad reason.
Expanding the Illini Offense
Upon arriving on campus in the summer, Bourrage leaned heavily on passing rather than looking for her own shot amid established team roles. The coaching staff responded by pushing her to adopt an aggressive scoring mindset to stretch opposing defenses. Green noted that Bourrage brings length, multi-positional defense, and three-level scoring capabilities that the Illini roster previously lacked. Her high school resume includes averaging 18.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists as a senior, alongside selection as a Gatorade Player of the Year in Iowa.
Bourrage joins fellow five-star recruits Berry Wallace and Destiny Jackson on an Illinois roster coming off a 22-12 campaign and an NCAA Tournament victory.
