Trailer Park Boys Star Mike Smith Steps Away From Role Following Sexual Assault Allegations
Mike Smith, known for his portrayal of Bubbles in the Canadian comedy series Trailer Park Boys, has stepped away from his role with the production company following allegations of sexual assault dating back to 2017. The news comes as the show prepares to launch its 13th season, celebrating the series’ 25th anniversary.
Trailer Park Boys Incorporated released a statement on Instagram acknowledging the allegations and stating they are taking the matter “seriously.” The statement continued, “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.” Producer Gary Howsam has assumed managing director responsibilities during Smith’s absence.
The long-running series, which initially aired on the Canadian network Showcase from 2001 to 2007, gained a global cult following. It was revived in 2014 by Netflix for an additional five seasons and has since expanded to include an animated series, numerous spin-offs, and sequels on Trailer Park Boys+. Smith recently starred as Bubbles in the musical comedy Standing on The Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles And The Shitrockers Story and appeared in the second season of Trailer Park Boys: Jail, which premiered this summer.Season 13 is still slated for release next year.
