Trader Joe’s Fried Rice Recall Expanded: 10 Million Pounds Added – Glass Risk

March 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

WASHINGTON — The recall of frozen foods due to potential glass contamination has expanded again, now encompassing nearly 10 million additional pounds of Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) enforcement report released Wednesday.

The report details a recall of 9,885,240 pounds – approximately 411,885 cases – of the frozen rice, identified under recall number H-0592-2026. The affected product is sold in 1-pound frozen bags with a UPC code of 00521482 and carries best-by dates ranging from February 28, 2026, through November 19, 2026.

The recall was initiated voluntarily on March 3 by Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc., the manufacturer of the product, which also produces frozen foods for Kroger and other major grocery brands. The FDA has classified the recall as Class II, indicating a remote probability of serious adverse health consequences, but acknowledging the possibility of injury.

The contamination is believed to stem from glass shards, measuring between 1 and 3 centimeters in length and 2 to 4 millimeters in width, originating from contaminated carrots used in the production process. This finding follows an initial investigation into the source of the glass fragments.

Distribution of the recalled Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice spanned 43 states: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

This latest expansion builds upon a previous broadening of the recall announced on March 4. That earlier action increased the original recall, which began with 3.4 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice, to include 16 products totaling nearly 37 million pounds. The expanded recall encompasses products sold under the Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei and Trader Joe’s brand names, including various fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling dishes.

Other Trader Joe’s products currently subject to the recall include Chicken Fried Rice, Japanese Style Fried Rice, and Chicken Shu Mai.

To date, no injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled products. Consumers are advised not to consume any of the affected items and are urged to either discard them or return them to the point of purchase for a refund.

Consumers with questions can contact Ajinomoto’s consumer affairs division at (855) 742-5011 or via email at [email protected].
