disney Unveils First Details for “Hexed,” Teases “Toy Story 5” Villains at D23 Expo
Walt Disney Animation Studios offered a glimpse into its upcoming projects today at “Destination D23: A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney” in Florida, revealing the title and initial details for the original film “Hexed” and showcasing early looks at characters from “Toy Story 5.” The announcements provide a snapshot of Disney’s animation pipeline, signaling a continued focus on both original storytelling and beloved franchise extensions.The presentation highlighted a diverse range of films in development, impacting audiences eager for new animated content and sequels too established favorites.”Hexed,” slated for release in November 2026, will be directed by Josie Trinidad (“Zootopia+”) and Jason Hand (“Moana 2”), with Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones producing. Meanwhile, initial images from “Toy Story 5” introduced some of the film’s antagonists, including a kids’ tablet named LilyPad, a potty-training toy voiced by Conan O’Brien called SmartyPants, and a malfunctioning Buzz Lightyear army.
“Hexed” centers on an awkward teenage boy and his organized mother who discover magical powers that disrupt their lives and reveal a hidden world of magic. Other updates included new footage from ”Hoppers” and casting announcements for the “zootopia” sequel, with Patrick Warburton voicing Mayor Winddancer and Yvette Nicole Brown taking on the roles of EMT Otter and Bearoness Bear.
A brief appearance by Paul Rudd and the Russos teased “Avengers: Doomsday,” though no footage was shown beyond the three men standing near bushes.
