Toulouse Feminicide Suspect Critically Injured After Killing Partner
A 40-year-old mother of two was killed in a suspected homicide by her former partner in Launaguet near Toulouse on Tuesday, according to statements released by the Toulouse public prosecutor’s office. The 54-year-old suspect, who had a prior murder conviction from 1999 in French Guiana, was discovered nearby in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head as investigators examine a potential suicide attempt by the perpetrator.
The Crime Scene and Timeline at Launaguet
The sequence of events unfolded in the early morning hours of Tuesday. Her two children, aged 17 and 9, were sleeping inside the residence during the attack.
Law enforcement located the primary suspect less than a kilometer away on the lawn of the municipal stadium. He possessed a handgun and a severe head injury. Ballistics tests are underway to determine if the firearm recovered next to the injured man matches the weapon used in the killing, per the Toulouse prosecutor’s office.
Judicial Background and Prior Convictions
The suspect carries a severe criminal record. Following his release from the Muret detention center in 2010, the man met the victim, and the two maintained a decade-long relationship that produced a young daughter.
On July 25, the victim filed a formal complaint at Lavaur concerning malicious phone calls, psychological violence, and invasions of privacy, according to the public prosecutor’s statement. Police took the husband into custody on July 26 in Castelginest, leading to a court appearance before the Toulouse prosecutor on July 27.
Protective Measures and Institutional Response
Despite the prior conviction for homicide, judicial authorities placed the suspect under judicial supervision with strict mandates prohibiting him from contacting the victim or approaching her residence. Prosecutors noted that the man complied with his judicial control appointments throughout August without reported violations.
Concurrently, the victim received a high-risk protective device known as a Téléphone Grave Danger (TGD) on August 5. Prosecutors confirmed that she did not activate the device prior to the attack. Child protection services have since taken charge of the victim’s children to provide psychological support.
The investigation remains active under the direction of the Toulouse prosecutor’s office, with casework handled by the gendarmerie research brigade of Toulouse-Saint-Michel.
