Tottenham 0-3 Nottingham Forest: Spurs Face Relegation Fears After Home Defeat

March 22, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation fears deepened on Sunday after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, a result that leaves the North London club just one point above the drop zone with seven Premier League matches remaining.

Igor Jesus opened the scoring for Forest in first-half stoppage time, heading in from a corner to silence the home crowd, which had earlier gathered in significant numbers to support the team. Morgan Gibbs-White doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute, finishing off a flowing team move, before Taiwo Awoniyi added a third in the closing stages to seal a crucial victory for the visitors.

The defeat was a significant setback for Tottenham, who had briefly enjoyed a positive week with a draw at Liverpool and a win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. However, the Premier League remains a stark contrast, with Spurs now winless in 13 top-flight games – their worst run in 91 years. The result also saw Forest leapfrog Tottenham in the table.

A large contingent of Tottenham supporters had greeted the team bus upon its arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, demonstrating their continued support despite the club’s precarious position. The atmosphere inside the stadium was initially fervent, with Tottenham creating several early chances. Richarlison headed wide from a corner, and a long throw from Kevin Danso inadvertently struck Forest forward Igor Jesus, hitting the crossbar.

Despite Tottenham’s early dominance, Forest grew into the game, with Guglielmo Vicario, who was playing the day before a scheduled hernia operation, forced to tip over an Elliot Anderson header. Jesus then broke the deadlock just before half-time, capitalizing on Gibbs-White’s corner.

The second half saw Tottenham attempt to rally, with manager Igor Tudor making a double substitution, bringing on Destiny Udogie and Lucas Bergvall. However, Forest remained resolute and extended their lead through Gibbs-White, who finished off a move started by Callum Hudson-Odoi. Awoniyi’s late goal then confirmed the victory for the visitors.

The match was overshadowed by the absence of Igor Tudor from the post-match press conference. A club official stated that Tudor had left the stadium immediately after the final whistle due to a “personal family matter,” with assistant coach Bruno Saltor taking his place. Standard Sport reported that Tudor was informed of a death in the family shortly after the defeat. Saltor declined to elaborate on the situation, stating, “Personal matters, family matters and I am stepping in as It’s not right time for him to speak.”

According to reports, Tottenham had considered Tudor’s position to be dependent on the outcome of the match against Forest. Football Insider reported that the club was prepared to sack Tudor if his team failed to secure a victory. The club is reportedly seeking a manager with experience in navigating relegation battles in England.
