Torremaggiore Faces Overnight Healthcare Gap: First Aid & Medical Guard Unstaffed
Torremaggiore, Italy – Residents of torremaggiore adn the surrounding Alto Tavoliere district of Puglia will face a critical gap in immediate medical care this Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Both the First Aid Point (PPIT/PFM) at the former San Giacomo facility and the Medical Guard service will operate without a physician present, raising concerns for vulnerable populations and potentially straining emergency response resources.
This lapse in physician coverage repeats a pattern of concern for the region, which relies heavily on the Torremaggiore station – consistently the busiest of five PPITs in Capitanata (torremaggiore,Vieste,Vico del Gargano,Monte Sant’Angelo, and San Marco in Lamis) - as a crucial filter for the San Severo hospital emergency room. The Torremaggiore facility houses a complete emergency response system including the PPIT, the MIKE mobile station staffed with a doctor, and the INDIA mobile station led by nurse teams, all strategically positioned to serve a wide geographical area. The absence of a doctor during thes hours leaves residents with limited options for urgent, non-life-threatening medical needs and increases the burden on ambulance services.
