Toronto Police Seek Suspects in Church-Wellesley Assault
Toronto police are searching for two men wanted in connection with a suspected hate-motivated assault that occurred early Saturday morning in the city’s Church-Wellesley Village.
The incident took place on April 4, 2026, at approximately 12:22 a.m. In the area of Church Street and Alexander Street. According to investigators, a male victim was walking down the street when two individuals in a passing vehicle began yelling homophobic slurs at him. The suspects then parked their vehicle, caught up to the victim, and assaulted him before fleeing the scene.
Both suspects are described as white men with thin builds. At the time of the attack, they were wearing all-black clothing and black ski masks. Police report that one suspect is six feet tall and the other is five feet, nine inches. The pair departed the area in a dark-coloured sedan.
Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. The Toronto Police Service has assigned its hate crime unit to lead the investigation into the assault.
