the Toronto Film Festival has announced five world premieres for its Special Presentations lineup. Among these is the latest installment in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series, titled Wake Up Dead Man. The Netflix film features Daniel Craig reprising his role as detective Benoit blanc, joined by a new ensemble cast including Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, and Kerry Washington.
Also set to screen at Toronto is Rental Family, a comedy-drama filmed in tokyo, directed by Hikari, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed series Beef, and produced by Searchlight Pictures.Brendan Fraser stars in the film. The festival will also showcase The Lost Bus, a thriller about a wildfire from director Paul Greengrass and Apple Original Films, starring Matthew McConaughey and america Ferrera. Additionally, Clement Virgo’s psychological thriller Steal Away, which centers on a teenager who forms a bond with a mysterious refugee welcomed into her family, will have its premiere.
Agnieszka Holland, the Polish writer and director, will present her new biographical film Franz, which explores the life of author Franz Kafka and stars German actor Idan Weiss. The 2025 Toronto Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 4 to 14. further announcements regarding the film lineup are expected in the coming weeks.
