Icardi to Torino? Granata Club Weighs Move for Former Serie A Star
A potentially notable transfer rumor is circulating in Italian football: Torino is in discussions regarding a possible move for Argentinian striker mauro Icardi. The 32-year-old, currently playing for Galatasaray, could be set for a return to Serie A.
Icardi’s contract with Galatasaray is set to expire in June, adding urgency to the situation. Since joining the Turkish club in the 2022/23 season, he’s been a prolific scorer, netting an impressive 66 goals in 96 appearances. Despite this record, his playing time has diminished this season, with only three league starts resulting in five goals.
Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek recently indicated that a contract renewal is “currently not on the table,” further fueling speculation about Icardi’s future. The player himself is reportedly keen on a return to Italy, where he previously enjoyed considerable success, scoring a total of 219 goals throughout his Serie A career.
A key motivator for Icardi is believed to be a desire to be closer to his daughters, following his separation from Wanda Nara. His agent has been proactively exploring opportunities across several clubs, with Torino emerging as a strong contender.
Torino President Cairo adn the club’s management are reportedly giving the move serious consideration. Coach Ivan Baroni is understood to believe Icardi’s goal-scoring prowess would be a valuable asset to the team, particularly given the current attack’s struggles - they’ve managed only six goals in five games so far this season.
Sources suggest Torino has scheduled a meeting with Icardi’s agent to discuss the feasibility of a January transfer. The primary obstacle appears to be the player’s current salary, which stands at €6 million net per year at Galatasaray. however, icardi is reportedly open to potentially adjusting his wage demands to facilitate a return to the league where he first made his name.
The prospect of adding a proven goalscorer like Icardi could significantly bolster Torino’s attacking options. Whether the club can overcome the financial hurdles remains to be seen, but the interest is clearly genuine.
