Gauff Battles Back, Advances at Omnium Banque Nationale

American No. 1 seed survives another tough three-set test

Top-seeded **Coco Gauff** is demonstrating resilience at the Omnium Banque Nationale, securing yet another hard-fought three-set victory against a former Top 10 opponent on Thursday.

Gauff Edges Past Kudermetova

World No. 2 **Gauff** rallied from a set and a break down to defeat Veronika Kudermetova 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, marking her fifth consecutive appearance in the Round of 16 at the Montreal event.

A Pattern of Gritty Wins

Following her second Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in June, **Gauff** experienced a brief dip, losing her opening matches in Berlin and Wimbledon. Her path this week began with a third-set tiebreak victory over former World No. 7 **Danielle Collins**.

Former World No. 9 Kudermetova presented a significant challenge. However, **Gauff** asserted dominance in the final set after overcoming her initial deficit. She is now one win away from reaching her fourth quarterfinal at this tournament.

Match Turned in Second Set

In the opening set, **Gauff** squandered a 4-1 advantage. At 4-4, she faltered with double faults, allowing Kudermetova to capitalize with powerful groundstrokes and take the set.

The second set saw **Gauff** facing a deficit again after opening the set with consecutive double faults. However, the American demonstrated her characteristic grit, breaking back for 3-3 with a strong forehand return winner.

Still facing pressure, **Gauff** saved break points at 4-4 and 5-5. She ultimately secured the set at 6-5 when Kudermetova netted a backhand smash, giving **Gauff** crucial momentum.

Taking control, **Gauff** broke Kudermetova at love to establish a 2-0 lead in the deciding set and maintained her advantage.

This strong performance comes as **Gauff** has reached at least the quarterfinals in three of her last four tournaments on hard courts, demonstrating her capability on the surface (WTA Tour).
