Tom Holland is set to resume filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day next week after taking a week off following an on-set injury Friday. The production, a collaboration between Sony and Marvel Studios, paused to allow Holland to recover from a mild concussion.
The temporary shutdown underscores the importance of Holland to the lucrative Spider-Man franchise, which has generated billions for Sony. Spider-Man: No Way Home remains the studio’s highest-grossing film ever with $1.91 billion, and Far From Home was the frist Spider-Man movie to surpass $1 billion worldwide. The July 31, 2026, release date is not expected to be impacted by the brief pause.
Holland’s injury was described as a mild concussion, prompting studio executives to prioritize his well-being and halt production for one week. Despite the injury, holland was able to attend a charity event Saturday for his organization, The Brothers Trust.
Destin Daniel Cretton is directing Brand New Day, building on his work with Marvel studios on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Wonder Man series. The film features returning Spider-Man cast members Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, alongside Marvel veterans Mark ruffalo and Jon Bernthal. New additions to the cast include Sadie Sink, Tramell tillman, and michael Mando, reprising his role as The Scorpion from Homecoming.
Marvel Studios is co-producing Brand New Day with Sony, continuing a successful partnership that has spanned Holland’s previous three Spider-Man films.
