Top Runners Withdraw from Diamond League Final in Brussels

Brussels, Belgium – Several prominent athletes will be absent from the Diamond League Final in Brussels this weekend, including marathoner Stewart, who has withdrawn due to health concerns, adn European record holder Jakob Ingebrigtsen. The unexpected absences shake up the competition as the athletics season nears its close.

The withdrawals represent a setback for both athletes and fans anticipating high-level competition. Stewart’s health issues force a last-minute change to the marathon field, while Ingebrigtsen’s continued recovery from an Achilles injury impacts the 5000m event. The Diamond League Final serves as a crucial showcase for the world’s top track and field stars, and these absences diminish the anticipated spectacle.

Hakima Saleha, a 29-year-old runner, shared her own recent struggles, stating, “Last year I was a lot in crisis, in winter I took time to think what to do next, there were speculation, if not to let it.” however, she expressed optimism about her future performance, adding, “But in the hall I managed to run well again and since then I have worked without injury in a quality system. We kept guarding it, so I believe that next year it will move again and the European Championship should be a fight.”

Ingebrigtsen, the 24-year-old Olympic champion, has not raced consistently this summer following his Achilles injury. He returned to competition at the world Championship but finished eighth in his event. He is still scheduled to compete in the 5000m race at the championship.
