Florida Basketball Coach Todd Golden Criticizes Alabama’s Charles Bediako’s Return
Florida basketball coach Todd golden publicly voiced his disagreement with Charles Bediako being allowed to rejoin the Alabama Crimson Tide’s roster. He expressed his opinion during UF’s sponsored radio show, Gator Talk, on Thursday, January 22nd.
Despite entering the 2023 NBA draft and signing a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs, Bediako was granted a temporary restraining order allowing him to play for Alabama again this week. When asked about the situation, Golden stated, “The reality is I don’t agree with it, and I don’t think he should be playing.”
Golden acknowledged the competitive nature of college basketball, saying it’s the job of coaches to win and do everything possible to improve thier program. However, he also pointed out that Alabama was able to secure a favorable ruling from a judge in Alabama who is also a donor to the university, allowing Bediako to play.
Bediako went undrafted and never played in an NBA game. This situation marks the first instance of a player who entered the NBA draft and signed an NBA contract being permitted to return to college basketball.
Key takeaways:
* Todd Golden believes Charles Bediako should not be eligible to play for Alabama.
* He acknowledges the competitive landscape of college basketball but questions the fairness of the situation.
* The ruling allowing Bediako to play was granted by a judge who is also an Alabama donor.
* This is a unique situation as it’s the first time a player with NBA draft and contract experience has been allowed to return to college.
