Chargers Dominate Steelers 25-10, Improve to 7-3 in AFC Playoff Race
INGLEWOOD, CA – The Los Angeles Chargers secured a commanding 25-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football, bolstering their record to 7-3 and strengthening their position in a competitive AFC playoff picture. A stifling defensive performance and efficient play from quarterback Justin Herbert proved too much for the Steelers, who struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout the contest.
The Chargers’ defence set the tone early, with safety RJ Mickens returning a kickoff for a touchdown to give Los Angeles an initial lead. Herbert later connected with Ladd McConkey for a 15-yard touchdown, extending the advantage. McConkey emerged as a key target, finishing with 107 receiving yards on four catches and a touchdown, leading all receivers. Keenan Allen also made history during the game, surpassing Hall of fame tight end Antonio Gates to become the Chargers’ all-time receptions leader.
Pittsburgh’s offense faced consistent pressure and struggled to convert on third downs, finishing 2-of-11. Quarterback Kenny Pickett completed 16 of 31 passes for 161 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, one of which was intercepted by former Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson. The Steelers’ offensive woes were highlighted by a turnover on downs deep in Chargers territory early in the fourth quarter after failing to convert on three consecutive plays from the 10-yard line.
A late touchdown connection between Pickett and roman Wilson with 2:57 remaining proved insufficient to mount a comeback for the Steelers, who finished with 221 total yards and 11 first downs. Kimani Vidal added a 2-yard touchdown run for the Chargers, capitalizing on a 58-yard catch-and-run by McConkey.
With the win, the Chargers gain a potential key tiebreaker advantage over the Steelers in the AFC playoff race. Los Angeles will travel to Jacksonville next Sunday before entering their Week 12 bye. The Steelers, now 6-4, will return home to face the Bengals.
