Focused on Defense: paul on SC Freital’s Strong Season
SC Freital defender Paul recently sat down for an interview with Andreas Hannewald, discussing his move to the club, the team’s notable form, and the upcoming crucial match against RSV Eintracht Stahnsdorf.
Paul joined SC Freital last summer, a move facilitated by his existing relationship with head coach Christopher Beck and a desire to be closer to family and friends in Dresden. Prior to joining Freital, he played for BSG chemie Leipzig, arriving there in 2025. His football journey began at Holtendorfer SV, followed by youth spells at Budissa Bautzen, SG Dynamo Dresden, SC Borea Dresden, and FC Erzgebirge aue. He later played for the first team of FC Erzgebirge Aue and VfB Auerbach.
interestingly, initial contact between Paul and the club occurred two years prior during a winter training camp in Teistungen, Thuringia, where both Chemie Leipzig and SC Freital were staying at the same hotel and participated in a test match – played on artificial turf, as Paul recalls.
He described a warm welcome from his new teammates, noting he already knew many from previous clubs, easing his integration. ”I really feel very comfortable here,” he stated.
SC Freital has enjoyed a triumphant season thus far, conceding only seven goals in 13 games, a testament to a strong defensive unit. Paul, a defender, articulated a clear ambition: ”As a defensive player, my goal is clear: win every game and, if possible, keep a clean sheet.” He expressed the team’s determination to maintain their current form and consistently earn points.
Despite the coach’s preference for rotation, Paul has started every game this season, a fact he acknowledges with gratitude. He also recognizes a responsibility to leverage his experience from higher leagues to organize the defensive line.
The team has recently favored a three-man defensive formation, a system Paul is familiar with and comfortable in, having frequently utilized it during his time at Chemie Leipzig.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against the previously unbeaten RSV Eintracht Stahnsdorf, Paul acknowledged the challenge. ”The next game will definitely be a challenge. But we know what we can do and want to keep the points in Freital. If we continue to believe in ourselves, I am optimistic that we can continue our series.”
