SDMA Announces Exclusive Bus Tour to The Huntington, Exploring Edmund de Waal’s “the eight directions of the wind“
San Diego, CA – The San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA), in partnership with the Asian Arts Council, is offering a curated bus tour to The Huntington library, Art Museum, and Botanical gardens on Saturday, November 18, providing exclusive access to the acclaimed exhibition, “the eight directions of the wind: Edmund de Waal.” The day-long excursion offers art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in de Waal’s porcelain installation and explore the renowned Huntington grounds.
This tour arrives as interest in contemporary ceramic art and cross-cultural artistic dialogue continues to grow. Participants will journey to The Huntington to experience de Waal’s work, which responds to the huntington’s collection and explores themes of displacement, memory, and identity. The trip aims to foster a deeper gratitude for Asian art and its influence on contemporary practice, while offering a convenient and enriching cultural experience for San Diego residents.
The tour departs from two convenient San Diego County locations: the Old Naval Hospital parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and the La Costa Park & Ride at 8:30 a.m., with an estimated return to both locations between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.Attendees will have ample time to walk The Huntington gardens and enjoy lunch, available for purchase at The Huntington’s restaurants, with reservations recommended at the Rose Garden Tea Room (626.683.8131).
