tennis fans in South Korea will have a rare prospect to witness a showdown between two of the sportS brightest stars, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, in January. The exhibition match, dubbed the Hyundai Card Super Match, is scheduled for January 10th in Incheon, just days before the start of the australian Open.
This contest arrives at a pivotal moment in the rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner, who have dominated men’s tennis in recent months, claiming nine of the last ten major titles between them. The exhibition offers fans a first look at the pair competing on korean soil and serves as a key warm-up ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year, beginning January 18th in Melbourne.
Currently, Sinner holds the world number one ranking, having overtaken Alcaraz on sunday following his victory at the Paris Masters. His 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win over Felix Auger-Aliassime propelled him 250 points ahead of Alcaraz in the rankings before the ATP finals on November 9th.
Despite Sinner’s recent ascent, Alcaraz leads their head-to-head record with 10 wins to Sinner’s five. Their rivalry has already produced memorable moments, including Alcaraz’s victory in the French Open final in June and Sinner’s subsequent triumph at Wimbledon in July. Most recently,Alcaraz secured his sixth Grand Slam title with a win at the US Open in September.
“For domestic tennis fans it will be the very first opportunity to see the two top-ranked players compete,” tournament organizers stated.
