WVU Students Can Trade Food for Fines in December Food Drive
Morgantown, WV – West Virginia University students, faculty, staff, and the public can clear eligible parking citations by donating non-perishable food items to The Rack: WVU Student Food Pantry during the “food for fines” drive, running from December 1-10. The initiative offers a unique opportunity to alleviate parking debt while supporting fellow students facing food insecurity.
The WVU Parking Management program allows participants to have one unpaid parking citation removed – up to a $20 value – in exchange for 10 non-perishable food items, each weighing at least 12 ounces. Donations will directly benefit The Rack, which provides crucial resources to WVU students experiencing food hardship. Even those without outstanding citations are encouraged to donate.
Donations can be dropped off on the first floor of Mountaineer Station between 8:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Accepted items include rice, pasta, pasta sauce, soups, microwavable meals, canned vegetables and fruits, canned meats, beans, condiments, spices, baking staples, and bottled water.
The Rack also welcomes donations catering to specific dietary needs, such as vegetarian,vegan,lactose-free,and gluten-free options. A complete wishlist of needed items is available on The RackS Amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/3KCI12NYZ86QR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_ws_PUZ2BbEDRX69X.
It’s meaningful to note that previously paid citations are not eligible for refunds. For questions regarding the ”Food for Fines” drive, contact the WVU Parking Management Office at 304-293-5502 or visit the Transportation and Parking website: https://transportation.wvu.edu/.
