Hilltoppers Secure Four-Set Victory Over Delaware, Honor Seniors Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, KY – The Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers ⁣defeated the University ⁢of Delaware Blue Hens ‌in four sets Friday evening, improving their season⁢ record and ⁤setting the stage for⁢ a ⁤Senior ⁢Day​ festivity. WKU won with scores‍ of 25-21, 22-25, ​25-19, and 25-20.

This win marks the fourth consecutive ‍victory for WKU against Delaware, bringing their all-time record against the Blue Hens to 4-1. The Hilltoppers demonstrated resilience, improving to 4-2 when their opponents‍ record more ‌blocks, a statistic relevant as Delaware finished⁣ with‍ a⁣ higher block total. Saturday’s⁤ match will be particularly poignant as⁤ WKU‌ honors ‌graduating players and unveils a statue honoring long-time ⁢Head Coach Travis Hudson.

Kaira Knox led the ⁣Hilltoppers’ offensive charge with a ⁢season-high 20 kills. Izzy Van ⁤De Wiele anchored the defense at the net, achieving a season-best eight blocks, including​ three solo blocks. Abby Schaefer​ bolstered ⁢the ‍back‌ row with a season-high 17‌ digs. Callie Bauer contributed ‍with a service ace and a block, while also ‌being recognized as one of the team’s graduating seniors.

WKU showcased strong performance in set four, achieving a 100% sideout percentage – their highest since​ recording 93% against Tennessee on September 10, 2024. The ⁣Hilltoppers recorded 158 attacks, tying for the second-highest total this season.

The‌ Hilltoppers ‍will ⁢celebrate seniors Callie Bauer,‌ Abby Schaefer, and ‌Callahan Wiegandt before their final match against Delaware on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT​ in E.A. Diddle​ Arena. Following the‍ match, at ‍2:30 p.m. CT,WKU Athletics will unveil a statue​ honoring Head Coach Travis Hudson outside entrance two.
