Walibi Website Overwhelmed by Black Friday Demand,Customers Face Hours-Long Queues
Wavre,Belgium – Walibi Belgium experienced significant website congestion during its Black Friday subscription sale, with a virtual queue peaking at 10,000 users vying for 4,000 discounted “Diamond” passes. Customers reported waiting in the online queue for up too three hours, only to find the desired subscription level had sold out or the system timed out before completion.
The surge in traffic stemmed from a tiered promotional campaign offering discounts ranging from 40% to 25% on the new “Diamond” subscription, which is priced higher than disneyland Paris’ Gold pass. the initial 4,000 subscriptions at -40% sold out within two hours of launch. Walibi implemented a queueing system to manage the influx, pausing access during transitions between discount levels.
“Normally, there have been no bugs for us. If anyone has encountered a problem on their end, they should contact our reception via the contact form,” stated Èle Moreau, spokesperson for Wavrien park.Moreau explained the queue was necessary “precisely to prevent the site from crashing,” and that pauses were implemented during promotion level changes.
According to Walibi, the 10,000 sessions recorded in the queue don’t necessarily represent 10,000 unique individuals, as some users connected through multiple browsers. As of today, the promotion continues at the -25% level, with remaining subscriptions available.
Walibi will reopen on December 6 for its third edition of Walibi Winter.
