Heavy rainfall across the UK has led to meaningful disruption, with Wales particularly affected and the possibility of further flooding. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for rain in Wales, forecasting continued downpours.

Traffic Wales reported poor driving conditions on the M4 in south Wales and restrictions on the Britannia Bridge in north Wales due to high winds. Several sections of the A4085 in north Wales have been closed as of flooding.

As of today, ther are six flood warnings and 72 flood alerts in place across the UK, concentrated in northern, western and south-western areas. Firefighters in Leven, East Yorkshire, have been pumping water away from homes.Meteorological autumn (September 1 to November 30) was notably wet and mild, with both temperatures and rainfall exceeding average levels. Northern Ireland experienced its third wettest autumn since records began in 1836, while Wales recorded its 10th wettest. the UK received 20% more rainfall than the long-term average.Despite the increased rainfall, some regions remain in drought conditions. Helen Wakeham, director of water at the UK Environment Agency, stated, “Despite an improving picture and above average rainfall across much of England during the autumn, we still need more rainfall through the winter in some areas to avoid a drought next year.”
