Save on ⁢Power Bills with New Government Battery⁣ Program

Wagga‌ Wagga,⁤ NSW ⁢- September 4, ⁢2025 – Homeowners and small businesses in Wagga Wagga can ‌now‍ significantly reduce electricity costs with the⁣ launch ⁣of the Australian governments Cheaper Home Batteries ⁤Program. The initiative, rolled out nationally in July, offers eligible customers around ⁤30 per cent off the upfront cost of installing a small-scale solar‌ battery system.

Delivered ‍by the Clean Energy Regulator, ‍the program aims⁢ to increase access to affordable renewable ‍energy by enabling locals to store solar power for use during peak demand. ⁣Wagga Wagga currently boasts over 10,000 rooftop solar PV systems, but battery uptake has been⁤ low, ‍with only 40 households currently utilizing battery storage due to‌ high ⁤initial costs.

The⁤ discount ‍is applied‌ directly by installers at the point of purchase, providing immediate savings. “This program represents⁣ a fantastic opportunity for local families to maximise their⁣ solar investment and reduce electricity bills,” said Hemendra Chaudhary, Council’s ⁢Net⁣ Zero Emissions ⁢Project Officer. “The batteries can store excess solar energy and allow access to renewable energy even if ⁣the ‍sun is not shining.”

customers ‍can ⁢further ‍benefit by joining the NSW Government’s Virtual Power⁣ Plant (VPP)⁢ network through the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme, unlocking additional financial incentives for selling stored energy⁤ back to the‍ grid when‌ demand is high.

To qualify for the ⁤Cheaper⁢ Home‌ Batteries Program, systems must:

⁤ Have a total capacity between 5kWh and ‌100 kWh
⁢ Be connected to an existing or new rooftop solar system
Be installed by an ‌accredited installer meeting all state and‍ territory electrical⁢ safety standards
Be listed⁢ on the Clean Energy Council’s approved ‌product list and have VPP capability (participation in VPP is optional).
