Verstappen and Tsunoda Suffer Shock Q1 Exit at São Paulo Grand Prix Qualifying
In a stunning upset during qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix, both Red Bull Racing drivers, reigning World Champion Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda, were eliminated in the first qualifying session (Q1).The unexpected outcome throws a wrench into Verstappen’s championship campaign and presents a significant challenge for the team heading into Sunday’s race.
this marks the first time since the 2021 Russian Grand Prix that Verstappen has failed to progress beyond Q1. Remarkably, it is also the first time since the 2006 Japanese Grand Prix that both Red Bull drivers have been knocked out in the opening session of qualifying.
Verstappen, currently battling McLaren drivers for the 2023 World Championship title, will start the race from a compromised position. red Bull is considering potential changes to Verstappen’s car, possibly including component swaps that could result in a pit lane start.
“It was simply bad, I couldn’t push it at all,” Verstappen explained to sky Sports F1. “The car had no grip and it was sliding a lot.I had to drive below its capabilities to avoid a skid. Of course it doesn’t work that way in qualifying.”
He added, “First we need to analyze what’s going on. I really don’t see how it could be this bad. It’s critically important for us to understand at this point.”
Tsunoda faces last-Row Start
Tsunoda’s qualifying result adds to Red Bull’s woes. This is the fifth time this season the Japanese driver has been eliminated in Q1, and he will start the São Paulo Grand Prix from nineteenth position.
