Utah Family Faces Dual Cancer Diagnoses: Mother and Son battling Disease Hours Apart
SALT LAKE CITY,UT – A Utah family is grappling with an unimaginable challenge after a mother and her young son were both diagnosed with cancer within an hour of each other. Britney Allred and her son, Jamon, are now undergoing treatment, prompting an outpouring of support from loved ones and a community rallying to ease their burden.
Teh simultaneous diagnoses have left the family reeling, navigating the emotional and financial strain of two cancer battles at once. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover travel costs and lost income as Britney and her husband,Jake, focus on supporting Jamon and undergoing her own treatment. The family is hoping for a small victory – that Jamon will regain enough strength to enjoy a Christmas treat.
According to sister-in-law Chantal McRae, the family was together as recently as september and had no indication of the health crisis to come. “I feel like none of us really felt like it was real at first,” chantal said. “We’ve all been really, really struggling with the emotions and being so far away from them and the inability to be there for them physically and support them through this.”
Brother-in-law Kyson Clegg emphasized the family’s reliance on faith during this challenging time. “It’s been difficult to reconcile the loving God that we believe in with this suffering of Jamon, but through it all, our faith is going to get us through it,” he said. “I believe in the kid. He’s a tough little kid. He’s a fighter.”
The emotional toll extends to Jamon’s younger brother, Jake, who deeply misses his mother’s attention during her treatments. Britney’s sister, Amber Bateman, shared a poignant example of their bond: “So many times he’ll just be laying in bed and he’s like, ‘Mom, where are my cuddles? Where are my snuggles?’ And Jake will be like, ‘can I snuggle?’ He’s like, ‘No.I need mom snuggles.'”
Jake Allred described the heartbreaking reality of witnessing his son’s fear and discomfort. “Jamon is kind of getting to the point where he’s sick of being poked and prodded and all the things that they do. And the first question he asks is, ‘Are they going to hurt me?’ as a dad, it’s so hard to see this.”
Despite the immense challenges, friends say Britney and Jake are remaining strong for their children. “Britney always has a smile on her face, even with the news,” said Allred. “I admire Jake for being able to hold it together. And, it’s a big duty. And it’s tough seeing people that you love go through such a terrible experience.”
