Ukrainian Boxer Protests Disqualification in Lithuania, Federation Review Underway

Vilnius, Lithuania – November 30, 2025 – Bogdan Mironets, a Ukrainian boxer, has formally protested a disqualification following his November 29, 2025, fight against Argentinian Jonathan Exequiel Vergara in Vilnius. The protest, submitted to the Lithuanian Professional Boxing Federation, centers on a controversial stoppage in the second round that initially awarded Mironets a knockout victory before being overturned.

The dispute stems from a sequence were Mironets scored two knockdowns against Vergara, the first in the opening round. In the second round, with 42 seconds remaining, a subsequent strike led to Vergara lowering his head, resulting in incidental contact to the back of the head. While the referee initially ruled it a knockout/technical knockout in favor of Mironets, the decision was reversed to a disqualification after objections from VergaraS team, alleging an illegal blow. No warnings or point deductions were issued prior to the disqualification.

“We have submitted an official protest to the Lithuanian Professional Boxing Federation,” stated Ivan Mesmar,Mironets’ trainer,in a social media post. “We request the restoration of the knockout/technical knockout victory or a declaration of ‘no contest.’ We stand for justice and thank everyone for their support. we will inform you immediately upon receiving a response.”

The incident has sparked debate over the interpretation of boxing rules regarding accidental contact. Mironets and his team argue that Vergara’s own movement caused the contact and that a disqualification was unwarranted. The Lithuanian Professional Boxing federation is now reviewing the protest and is expected to issue a ruling in the coming days, which will determine the final outcome of the bout and potentially impact Mironets’ professional record.
