Twins Acquire Catcher Alex Jackson, Extend Contracts to Seven players
Minneapolis, MN - The Minnesota Twins bolstered their roster Friday, acquiring catcher Alex Jackson in a trade and extending contract tenders to seven players, including key contributors Royce Lewis and Joe Ryan. The moves signal the team’s commitment to its current core while navigating a crowded outfield situation.
Jackson, a former first-round draft pick, joins the Twins organization after being designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins. To create a 40-man roster spot for Jackson, Minnesota designated outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. for assignment, making him a free agent. Keirsey saw limited action in 2025, primarily as a defensive substitute and pinch runner.
Beyond the trade, the Twins tendered contracts to Jackson, Ryan, fellow pitchers Bailey Ober and Cole Sands, infielders lewis, and outfielder trevor Larnach, and catcher Ryan Jeffers. The team’s decision to tender a contract to Larnach, projected to earn $4.7 million according to MLB Trade Rumors, is notable given the presence of multiple left-handed outfield options – Matt Wallner, james Outman, and Alan Roden – alongside highly-ranked prospects Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodríguez currently at Triple-A.
In a separate transaction, the Twins finalized terms with relief pitcher Caleb Topa, who will earn $1 million in 2026 with a mutual option for 2027, including a buyout clause. These moves collectively position the Twins for the upcoming season as they aim to build upon recent success and contend in the American League Central.
