England‘s Homegrown Talent Crisis Deepens,Tuchel Acknowledges Premier League Issue
October 10,2025 – England manager Thomas Tuchel addressed concerns over the dwindling number of English players featuring prominently in the Premier League, admitting it is indeed “frustrating” to scout games with limited domestic talent on display. The issue, previously highlighted by his predecessor Gareth Southgate who warned future managers might need to consider Championship players, appears to be worsening, according to recent research.
Tuchel downplayed the impact of absent stars like Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden following England’s recent match, praising Aston Villa’s morgan Rogers, who filled in for Bellingham in the No. 10 position, calling his performance ”outstanding.”
“The door is always open for anyone to jump in,” Tuchel stated. “Let’s play a second game and then we decide.” He emphasized a step-by-step approach to selection, noting,”The nomination comes and then there is always an open door for top quality, top character. We are in October now so we go step-by-step.”
He acknowledged Rogers’ strong performance, describing him as ”a humble player…a physical player…and a very talented player.” Tuchel stressed the need for a deep squad, stating, “We need more than just 11 at the moment.”
When questioned about the possibility of a World Cup starting eleven mirroring the recent lineup with established players on the bench, Tuchel declined to speculate. “I am sorry but I don’t follow that mindset,” he said. “I am a football coach to coach the team that I nominate. And that is where my focus is.”
He added, “Let’s cross the river when we are at the river. it does not help anyone if we think in bubbles about what can happen and about what cannot happen.”
