Trump Signals Support for primary Challenge to Marjorie Taylor Greene
WASHINGTON – former President Donald Trump has indicated he would back a primary challenger to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in the 2025 election, escalating a public feud wiht the conservative firebrand. The move comes after greene repeatedly pressed Trump to release documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, a demand he appears to view as disloyal.
The escalating conflict highlights a growing rift within the Republican party, pitting Trump’s continued influence against a wing of the party he helped cultivate but now appears willing to challenge. Greene, a staunch Trump ally who rose to prominence with his support, is now facing the possibility of a well-funded primary opponent backed by the former president, possibly reshaping the political landscape of Georgia’s 14th congressional district. The outcome could signal whether loyalty to Trump remains the paramount qualification for Republican candidates, or if independent stances-even on issues Trump prioritizes-will be tolerated.
Trump’s declaration came via social media, where he accused Greene of having “attacked and lied” about him. He stated that if a “strong” candidate emerges to run against her, they would receive his “complete and unwavering support.” This declaration followed Greene’s public sharing of text messages she sent to Trump, urging him to release documents related to the Epstein case.
“It is indeed truly amazing how hard he fights to stop the Epstein documents from getting out, that he actually sinks to this level,” Greene wrote on X, formerly Twitter. She attached a screenshot of the texts, which reportedly asked Trump to release the documents.
Greene defended her actions, stating, “I have supported President Trump with far too much of my precious time, far too much of my own money, and fought harder for him even when almost every othre Republican turned their backs on him and condemned him. But I do not worship or serve Donald Trump. I worship God, Jesus is my savior, and I serve my district of Georgia and the American people.”
The congresswoman has been a vocal advocate for the release of Epstein-related documents, and her public pressure on Trump appears to have triggered his rebuke. The situation underscores the former president’s sensitivity surrounding the case and his willingness to engage in intra-party battles to maintain control and protect his interests.
