Trump Pardons Individuals Accused in 2020 election Subversion Attempts
Washington D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has issued pardons to individuals accused of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, including lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, and former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. The pardons were proclaimed on November 7th, as confirmed by Ed Martin, the U.S. Justice Department’s pardon officer, who shared a photo of the proclamation on social media.
The pardons extend to those indicted by Georgia state prosecutors on charges related to attempts to subvert the election results – a notable action as presidential pardons typically apply only to federal indictments. an advisor stated the pardons aim to ”end the serious national injustice inflicted on the American people after the 2020 presidential election and to continue the process of national reconciliation.”
This move has been interpreted by the Associated press as a continuation of Trump’s unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
The pardons follow a pattern established by President Trump, who previously pardoned numerous participants in the January 6, 2021, Capitol Riot shortly after taking office. Furthermore, federal indictments against Trump related to the 2020 election were withdrawn by the Justice Department after his recent election victory, citing a policy of not indicting sitting presidents. Ongoing legal challenges, such as the sexual harassment trial in New York City, have also been effectively halted with the outcome of the election.
