Trento Mayor Considers Reinstating Double Lane on Via Grazioli, Tied to Parking & Traffic Solutions
TRENTO – Trento Mayor Ianeselli is evaluating the possible restoration of a double lane on via grazioli, potentially at the cost of existing parking spaces, following citizen complaints regarding congestion and parking difficulties. The mayor indicated assessments are “underway” during a recent “Rotary” evening, responding to concerns raised by a Rotarian member.
However, Ianeselli stressed the core issue isn’t significant traffic on Via Grazioli itself, but congestion around the fountain in Piazza Venezia. He linked any changes to the broader context of a planned underground car park near San Camillo Hospital, stating its completion will allow for a comprehensive review of transit and parking in the area.
The discussion of city center parking continued at a recent City Council meeting, where members approved an exception to the prg (Programma Generale di Revisione) allowing expansion of the villa Bianca nursing home. The expansion includes a three-story underground car park for exclusive use by users and patients, aiming to increase Villa Bianca’s capacity from 61 to 90 beds and add eight new clinics.
The vote passed 36-2 with two abstentions, though some councilors expressed reservations. Renata Attolini (AVS), Giulia Bortolotti (Onda), Claudio Geat, and Martina margoni (Generazione Trento) voiced concerns about prioritizing private healthcare over public facilities. Others, including Giuseppe Urbani (Fdi) and Devid Moranduzzo (Lega), highlighted the necessity of parking for hospital access and the benefits of increased healthcare capacity. Alex Benetti (PD-PSI) emphasized the importance of the additional thirty parking spaces. urbani also cautioned that approving the Villa Bianca car park could set a precedent for future requests for underground parking near the city center.
