Toyota has launched the Yaris Cross, a new compact SUV poised too compete in a crowded segment. Pricing for the vehicle begins at R$172,390 for the hybrid XRE model, with the full lineup extending to R$189,990 for the top-tier XRX hybrid. These introductory prices are promotional and subject to change after the pre-sale period.
The Yaris Cross enters a market dominated by rivals like the Volkswagen T-Cross, Hyundai Creta, and Honda HR-V, aiming to carve out a niche with its hybrid powertrain option and competitive pricing. The launch addresses growing consumer demand for fuel-efficient and versatile compact SUVs, offering a unique proposition as the only full hybrid in its class.
The Yaris Cross is available in several configurations. The hybrid XRE, equipped with a 1.5-liter aspirated flex engine paired with an electric motor and a 177V battery, delivers a combined output of 111 horsepower. The XRX trim offers both a 122 hp gasoline option and a hybrid version.
Compared to competitors, the base Yaris Cross is priced slightly above average. The VW T-Cross starts at R$157,490, the hyundai Creta at R$151,290, and the Honda HR-V at R$163,200 (excluding PCD options). Though, at the higher end, the Yaris Cross undercuts the T-Cross Highline (R$191,490), Creta Ultimate (R$199,990), and HR-V Touring (R$209,900). It’s significant to note that those competitors offer higher horsepower figures – 150 hp, 193 hp, and 177 hp respectively.
Toyota emphasizes the Yaris Cross’s unique selling point: its full hybrid technology, wich is not currently offered by its direct competitors. The Honda WR-V, starting at R$145,000, is considered a separate category and not a direct rival to the more elegant Yaris Cross.Image: Rafaela Borges/UOL
